For Betas at Truman State, engagement and achievement in the classroom is a top priority. This doesn’t at all mean that we look to recruit or only accept the most intelligent men on campus for our fraternity. What it does means is that we want to connect with those who are interested in learning and really connecting with their classes, majors, and general academic environments. Because of this, we are a network of eager students on campus, all with something to offer each other. In Beta there are students with expertise in nearly every major, some that are unbelievably intelligent, some that have great knowledge of the university administration, and others with various abilities to facilitate and encourage each others intellectual growth. We have brothers in every major who offer themselves boundlessly as tutors, others who proctor study hours, and still more who are always ready with notes and study guides for whatever class you need a little help with.
Last semester, Fall 2007, 19 Betas (about 25% of our chapter) received a 4.0 GPA, with almost another quarter receiving higher than a 3.5. The average GPA for our pledge class was a 3.43, while our active body wasn’t far away with a 3.16. The average GPA for Truman males not in Beta was significantly lower at a mere 3.1. This isn’t a unique instance either, for the past 20/24 semesters that Beta has existed on this campus we have had the top fraternity grades – always higher than the all male or, even, the non-Greek average on campus. So, whatever your goals are at Truman or whatever you want to get out of your academic career here, Beta is able to and will help you succeed.
